About the author

My entire professional life has been focused on project management in one way or another. First as a practitioner starting in 1963. PMI wouldn't arrive on the scene until 1969 and so I was on my own. As a result I'm self-taught and all of my books have grown out of my practice of the profession. I grew up to be a consultant, then a trainer, and now an author. I'm currently writing my 22nd book tentatively titled "A Practical Enterprise-level Project Management Model." My signature book is "Effective Project Management: Traditional, Agile, Extreme." Now in its 6th edition it is used in over 300 colleges and universities worldwide and is also a best seller in the professional reference market. Being a best-seller in those very different markets is unique. All of my books are theoretically sound and PMBOK compliant but they grew out of my own personal experiences as a project management consultant. I hope you enjoy the practical nature of what I have learned and have shared about the practice of project management.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 19, 2020A simple but effective framework for managing projects of all types. There is detailed 'how to' for all areas within the framework. This is my bible on project management.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2021Great book on Project Management!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 16, 2020"Effective Project Management: Traditional, Agile, Extreme, Hybrid" by Robert K. Wysocki is well laid out with good organization so it makes it easy to read and follow. The author does assume a certain amount of knowledge but at the same time, he walks the reader through the important process points. He describes and works through the various project management types featured. I'm glad that it focuses on 4 types because I've read some project management books that cast too wide a net and it just ends up jumbled. This book keeps it to the four (traditional, agile, extreme, and hybrid) which makes the focus for the reader much easier. I keep this book at my work desk and have been referring to it a lot for ideas and clarity. It has been well worth the time to read and re-read.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 7, 2020Arrived as promised
- Reviewed in the United States on January 3, 2020As the subject matter expert in a number of areas in my workplace, I've been drafted into the role of project manager multiple times. I've been stumbling through things (with lots of nodding when people bring up fancy technical PM terms), but I want to be better prepared to successfully lead my team. This book is definitely more of a textbook, but as someone who just finished grad school, I'm a-ok with textbooks. This book provides an excellent overview of project management from start to finish. From defining what is a project, to the various methodologies, you'll be on better ground after finishing this book. I feel equipped with the tools provided to really wow on my next project! Plus, I finally picked up all that fancy PM lingo!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 26, 2019Great starter course, or, refresher, helps you understand how to define a project, building the fundamentals around the scope of the project, building collaborative teams, planning, launching and closure of the project. It's the full landscape from A to Z. I found this educational and informative, it did provide me with additional tools to transform my professional life. Certainly recommend this for any leader - it's highly helpful and guides you to support your operations and teams.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 11, 2020Most of the contents were repeated way to many times. I think this book could be a lot shorter If the author of this book or anyone who is related to book production. Please publish edition b with lean contents. I would buy that also.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 18, 2021To be honest, this book is underwhelming... This textbook claims to be easily readable and digestible, but the reality is that it isn't much better than the PMBOK guide. It's written HEAVILY from an IT/Software management perspective with tips and tricks that are simply not applicable outside of that industry. In addition, the book is vastly outdated, referring to "videoconferencing" as an emerging technology, relying heavily on in-person projects and co-location of teams. A lot of the principles of communication and management in this book are really defunct. The "war room" strategy is to book a conference room for the entire duration of the project, utilize white-boards and post-it notes for planning and execution and co-locate core team members in that war room. In my 6 years as a PM I have never managed, witnessed or even heard of a project that is managed 100% in person.

1.0 out of 5 stars No Extra Content
In the description and throughout the book it discusses slides and extra content that is available to readers. However, the website does not exist in this is highly disappointing and misleading.
