- Reviewed in the United States on February 20, 2015I love Wayne Dyer's books and I have read all of his books that he has written since 1995. Like so many others, Wayne Dyer has been a guiding force in my life. I can mark my life by which book of his I am reading at the time.
I took me a while to get into reading this book, but once I did, I got a lot out of it. I agree with his basic premise that everything in life happens for a reason and we are all divinely guided. As he says so beautifully "make a commitment to be absolutely faithful to that which exists nowhere but within yourself"
I think I was led to finish this book that I had started months earlier when I was stuck in the process of writing my own autobiography. I was judging myself very harshly and feeling a lot of regret that was blocking my ability to continue. I listened to the "nudge from my soul" to take a break and finish reading this book.
It is true that it would be much easier to relate to Wayne if he went into more detail about his pain and failures. For example, why did his wife leave him? He says he is fully responsible for his part in it. What was his part in it? Maybe that is too personal, but isn't an autobiography supposed to be personal? When people write about their pain and angst then we don't feel so bad for being human ourselves. I admit that I wanted to know more about his pain and challenges and I wanted him to not be so perfect.
But, I think the main purpose of this book was not so much to be relatable, as to inspire people to achieve their highest potential.
Wayne was there for me again when I needed him. In his afterword, I felt like he was speaking right to me:
"The real benefit of looking back at all of those significant events of your life
and seeing how the invisible hand of God was there for you at the time
is not to rehash your entire past looking for the hidden meanings,
but to awaken you to becoming a more conscious person now, today,
in the present moments of your life...
To view an unfortunate happening not as "my bad luck", but to ask, "What might I learn from this right here, right now?" rather than going through a long period of suffering before seeing why you aligned with this seemingly regrettable circumstance...
At that moment there was something you've always connected to, that was also at play. That "something" was setting up the details so you could fulfill the purpose you signed up for when you made the leap from Spirit to form."
Thank you Wayne for sitting down and writing the words I needed to hear. Your commitment to service has influenced my life in more ways than I can say and I am eternally grateful. Now, off to continue my autobiography...
- Reviewed in the United States on April 19, 2014I'll admit that at points this book made me feel inadequate. Dyer's life with its many seminal moments is filled with huge accomplishments, super human amounts of energy (running 8 miles every day, writing religiously at 3:00 AM, traveling non-stop and surmounting every possible obstacle) and his own unique transformation from a man trained in psychology and human development to one who ultimately sees himself as a child of God, capable of tapping into that divine energy that opens him up to many synchronistic experiences.
I look at my rather mundane existence and can't help but say that Dyer has sucked every bit of juice and marrow out of this short incarnation here on Earth and I have not. But this is my problem, not Dyer's. Maybe this is the kick in the butt that I need.
However, when I let go of my ego and pride and envy, what most struck me by this book was that fact that Dyer himself has become less and less enamored by the millions and millions of book sales and countless TV appearance and now seems to see himself as a humble servant of God, Spirit, Tao, the Universe, or whatever word you use to explain that which is hard to name. He is a scribe or mouthpiece and words and love flow through him.
I also love that Dyer readily admits that he is human, flawed and does not know it all. He has stumbled and gotten back up, dusted himself off and gotten back on his joyful roller coaster headed towards a deeper understanding of God and love. He is a teacher but also a student and he realizes that life and its many curiosities, coincidences, connections and stories will continue to unfold perfectly. In hindsight Dyer has looked back at his 70+ years and appears that he wouldn't change a thing. Everything showed up perfectly and on-time, even being separated from his mother as a young boy, separation from his beloved wife and his cancer.
I've read a few of Dyer's book and enjoyed them but never had the feeling as I do know that I'd love to give him a big soulful bear hug and thank him for sharing his very human journey as he becomes more closely and closely aligned with God and Spirit. Thank you, Wayne!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 9, 2016When I was young I read Wayne Dyer's first book Your Erroneous Zones. Over the years I kept reading his books, listening his cassettes, and CD's because I've always identified with his personal way of addressing the reader with examples close to the lives of others and his own life. On the one hand, I have learned and reflected on the truth of what he says in his books and on the other hand, I feel that being in touch with his books I have come to realize how he has been the teacher who preaches and he himself is the example of struggle, efforts, will power, personal and spiritual growth. His mind was universal, independent and at the same time, as a human being was subjected to the failures, pains, frustrations and imperfections, to which we humans must face and try as much as possible to overcome.
I Can See Clearly Now by Wayne Dyer, is to me a compendium of the process of personal and spiritual evolution of all his life, his intellectual production and learning of a great number of teachers of all ages, cultures, philosophies and religions, of which this author testified how he was influenced by those teachings, which he transmitted to his readers, adding to them his own.
I wanted to buy the book mentioned above in print, which I've already known as audio book, shortly after his death, because it has inspired me to rethink on it, as I write and reflect on my own life at times of changes, decisions, encounters with others, apparent or not, in the same way Wayne Dyer narrated about his own life, in order to see, and understand better what has been my life and build more awareness while I advance in the life path I still have to walk.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Can See Clearly Now

5.0 out of 5 stars An informative read for any Wayne Dyer Fan
I want to state right at the outset, and although this is obvious to many, it seems that some people know that this is an autobiography, yet do not UNDERSTAND that this is an autobiography. What I am saying is that previous books written by Wayne Dyer focus on an idea, issue, etc. in which some personal experiences are shared. This book is about Wayne’s journey through life and that necessitates a frequent use of "I." Personally, I did not find this book self-aggrandizing, and people who read biographies can likely relate to the style in which, I can See Clearly Now, is written; however, people that expect this book to be written in Wayne’s traditional style need to be conscientious of this "different" perspective.
Now that the caveat is out of the way, for those familiar with Wayne’s work, you will find numerous stories and anecdotes that he has shared during his 40+ years or writing and sharing...it’s hard to believe that Your Erroneous Zones came out in the mid-70’s!!! Many of the stories and personal experiences that have been shared during Wayne’s journey are finally compiled in one place, in a chronological order, that is easy to follow.
Wayne starts out with the early days in Detroit where he lived in an orphanage, his days in school and then he progresses through his post-secondary years, his time in the navy, and then through the creation of his 41 books. Along the way Wayne shares the encounters he has had with some of the significant “change agents” in his life, people like: Mother Teresa, Ken Keys Jr., Viktor Frankl, Guruji, Edwarda, Abraham Maslow and so many others. The names however, are not as important as the messages that came with them. It seems that every time a new person intersected Wayne’s path there was a new unfoldment, a new way of seeing the world. Some of the encounters were pleasant, some not so much, yet all the encounters contained new seeds of experience that helped Wayne expand his consciousness.
As his consciousness grew so too did his writing evolve from the physical/cerebral world into the world of the subconscious/spiritual . Going from Your Erroneous Zones to his later books, such as The Power of Intention or Wishes Fulfilled, there is a definite shift. I would concur with Wayne’s own conclusion that there is a Divine hand in this process and that all of the events in his journey have “conspired” to carry him along the path that he needed to travel to fulfill his dharma. Although hindsight is the rest stop we don’t get to enjoy until after the bumpy roads are behind us, the fact that we can “see clearly”, even after-the-fact, is a blessing that we can share with others as they travel on their own bumpy roads. The fact that Wayne is sharing his road map is the most significant aspect of I can See Clearly Now: the reader gets to share in experiences that can connect us on a universal/soul level. In other words, Wayne candidly shares his experiences AND these then form the foundation of an idea/concept/lesson that others can benefit from.
I am grateful that Wayne wrote and shared I Can See Clearly Now. From the perspective of a curious onlooker - I enjoyed reading about Wayne’s personal journey thus far - and I also enjoyed this book from the perspective of a student of life – learning as I go.
To emphasize some of my previous ramblings, I Can See Clearly Now is definitely written from different perspective than Dr. Wayne Dyer’s other books: this is an autobiography. If you have read and enjoyed Wayne Dyer’s other books AND you are curious to learn more about his personal experiences then you will likely enjoy I Can See Clearly Now. On the other hand, if you are looking for a book that is exclusively a “how-to” book, or simply another book from Wayne Dyer that is written in the same style as his earlier books, then I Can See Clearly Now might not be the book you are looking for.
As a side note, ironically and synchronistically perhaps, before the release of “I Can See Clearly Now” was announced, I was reading another book by Dr. Dyer and thought that it would be wonderful to have more insight, in a chronological order, into Wayne’s life. Well, it is said “Ask and ye shall receive” and perhaps one could even take that a step further and say “Think and ye shall receive” because in this case my thoughts were answered and I now have the book I had hoped for.

5.0 out of 5 stars La sagesse s'apprend
