- Reviewed in the United States on July 4, 2018Damian helped me understand the importance of social media and how to connect on a deeper level with my audience. He calls it "taking care of people" and that resonated with me. Numerous strategies were outlined with great stories to explain. It was an easy to read book -- so much so that I could comprehend it while doing cardio. Now ready to implement his 30 day challenge.
(Please note: Damian's style of writing includes "strong language" ... Between the cover and hearing him interviewed, I was expecting this. While it does distract me as I read, I am still giving the book 5 stars because overall it is great info and the language may not be jarring to others. I'm mentioning this so you won't be surprised.)

This book expands on many of the topics from his YTube channel and presents a bold critique of the modern state of affairs for social media. Highly recommended to those willing to expand their understanding of the facets of media management.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Number One Top Tip For Your Social Media Presence
I first came across Damien at a music industry conference aimed at providing help, support and encouragement to bands and artists and was instantly hooked by his passion, charisma, story telling and ... did I mention passion? His aim was to enlighten and to debunk some of the many "rules" surrounding social media and how it can be made to work for musicians - and that is certainly what I think everybody in that room took away from his session, social media enlightenment.
Within his opening comments he asked the audience, "Who will buy my book?" The idea was to indicate that just asking people to buy will not result in sales of the volumes anyone needs to thrive, yet within minutes I knew that I needed a copy as soon as it was available. Fast forward to the launch a few days ago (obviously via Damo's social media channels) and purchase made.
I can't remember being so excited about the impending arrival of a book before. Ok, perhaps the final instalments of Harry Potter and ... I digress. The point being, this is a marketing book, a text book, a how to guide and even based on only that few minutes at the conference, I knew there would ideas and strategies that could be implemented IMMEDIATELY in my social media channels. Not just that I knew they would work. How? Because I had already tried some of the ideas imparted by Mr Keyes. Not just that, but once I started reading it I couldn't stop. This is one helluva page turner and speaks to you in a way that is not your archetypal business book. That is why it is great - Damien doesn't just talk the talk, he and this is the real deal.
There is some absolute genius in the book. A strong word but, it has to be genius. Why? Because it matched up, in places exactly, with thoughts, ideas and strategies I had developed in my own world of wonder - but people kept telling me were nonsense. Perhaps this is similar to the theory amongst some songwriters that songs float above us and are there for anyone to look up and grab to create. Doh! I should've looked up, written my ideas down and maybe someone else would've been writing this about my work.
So, in a nutshell (or an avocado skin, if you will), this book is a MUST HAVE for anyone, in any business.. I'll be trying the lot for my website and it's social media channels and for my other business too. You will see that your socials aren't just your marketing department, they are far more important than that. Just do it - invest in your success, even one of the ideas could get you closer to your ambition,

5.0 out of 5 stars The book that can help change ‘those who don’t do’ to ‘those who excel at’
This books presents itself as a highly accessible and easy-to-read guide on how to be effective and engaging towards successfully conducting yourself within social media environments. It also contains a number of key important areas of importance in regard to branding and marketing, yet never feels the need to go beyond the levels of immediacy that are required for the majority of social media content creators - some of those with branding or marketing experience may easily dismiss this (in error) as only scratching the surface, however, what Damian has done here is carefully craft the most value information to start/amend the journey or serve as a clear reminder on the true values of different platforms and the overall value of social media. In addition, the book is written with a clear vision of who the target audience is - Making the book a highly enjoyable, informative and easy read.
For any music artists who are struggling to make an impact on social media platforms, this is a great book for you. Equally, anyone who has not fully understood or is struggling with other marketing or branding books will find immediate value here.
Lastly, for anyone working in social media or marketing and needing a professional reminder, this will serve that purpose too.
If social media is something you need to start, fix or get moving with fast, read this.
I would expect that demands of a follow-up book won’t be too far off either from those that have read and applied the approaches expressed in this book.
Great job, 5 stars 👍

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book easy to read but one complaint about design.
This book is brilliant and has so much information in it - most of it is stuff you just never really thought about rather than hard facts - but it's invaluable to anyone working within socials media and content creation. My one complaint - which I have to say has nothing to do with the content - but it's the front cover. Although I didn't care about it, it was things like reading it on the tube and public transport that made it awks as hell! I didn't even think about it until I had a lady ask me to put the book down because kids were around. I experienced this 4 times during the course of reading it. Perhaps this wasn't considered when designing but it defo effected me reading it quicker.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you read one book in 2018 then make it this one!
I have been watching Damo's Facebook and YouTube videos for quite some time now and was extremely excited to finally get my hands on his book.
Even though I am not as much involved in the music scene, I find the book extremely inspirational and use bits and pieces of advise that fit for my personal and work life. I find Damo's can-do attitude impressive and would love for him to be my mentor.
Reading this book makes me want to start a business, just so I can put his tips and challenges into practice!!!
I learned so much about Social Media and just love how easy to read this book is. There are clearly structured chapters and paragraphs, which is helpful if you want to go back and pick up on certain areas again. You can finish the book in a few hours, but the 30 Day Challenge will ensure you don't leave it gathering dust on your book shelf.
It is apparent that he book is written from the heart and with an extreme wealth of knowledge, entwined with Damo's unique humour. On quite a few occasions I had to laugh out loud, which gets you a few funny looks if you do that on public transport, let me warn you.
I'd highly recommend buying it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Relevant And Relatable
This a very well written, humorous, up to date and relevant book that came at exactly the right time for me. Having recently launched an online guitar tuition website (my second), I was looking for a book that could guide me in today’s saturated online marketplace, where the algorithm is king.
When I launched my first online business 8 years ago, it was far easier to gain traction using the likes of YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. However, in 2018, their algorithms have since become far more intelligent, having got wise to the black-hat techniques of some of the lesser experienced online marketing "Experts".
I don’t know Damian Keyes personally, but being a musician of a similar age and having lived in Brighton for a number of years, I found him very relatable. I definitely know a few of the people and places mentioned in his anecdotes and examples.
This is a very good read that will put you out of your comfort zone and teach you some of the things you didn’t know that you didn’t know!
